A rushnyk is a embroidered towel. Rushnyk is used in a double meaning. It retains its simple meaning of “towel”. According to Ukrainian traditions, rushnik is the guardian of every house and family.

It is used to secure a wedding, to protect the home and insure the prosperity and fertility of the inhabitants of the household, among other things. In ancient times, without a towel, not one important event happened. Wedding, the birth of a child, the meeting of dear guests-in every rite there was a towel.
